Call for papers

Issue no. 1, 2026

The editorial team of Politics and Civil Society invites submissions for the first issue of this new interdisciplinary journal dedicated to advancing research on civil society and its relationship with politics, democracy, institutions, and social change. We welcome manuscripts that offer original empirical, comparative, theoretical, or methodological contributions and that engage critically with contemporary debates on civic life, democratic governance, and structural inequalities.

Thematic focus

We encourage submissions that address any of the journal’s core areas, including:

Civil society organizations: their roles, capacities, and internal dynamics

Volunteering and participation: civic, social, and political engagement

Political culture and social capital: trust, norms, and collective identities

Democratization: regime change, democratic resilience, and civic mobilization

State – civil society relations: regulation, collaboration, and conflict

Public policies affecting civil society

Gender, diversity, minority inclusion: representation, access, and structural barriers

Religious and secular civic life

Inequalities and exclusions: tensions, limitations, and democratic deficits

Submissions should clearly articulate how their findings contribute to scholarly debates on civil society’s democratic potential, its constraints, and the structural inequalities shaping participation and influence.
