The Department for Communication, Public Relations and Advertising has been created to answer a series of current scientific and socio-economic concerns. Communication sciences have imposed themselves firmly in the area of social sciences, offering a research sphere whose supplies seem to be infinite. To support these claims, an impressive number of works belonging to this area, as well as a growing number of researchers, stand as testimony. After all, the birth and expansion of this autonomous field have done nothing more than to follow the trail that contemporary society had set; a society in which communication has become a key notion, as have other concepts such as identity, image, relationship, mediation or significance.
The above mentioned tendencies have generated not only the interest of scientists towards this area. Another consequence, as important as the first, is the emergence of new professions: public relations specialist, PR manager or image consultant. Obviously, the acknowledgement that these professions have received in the more developed world countries, is a decisive factor. In foreign states, it has been fully accepted that in nowadays society, the way one builds and promotes his/her own identity and the interest in promoting his/her own performance are conditions necessary for success. Therefore, organizations of any kind, public administrations or public figures act upon the idea that working with communication and public relations professionals is a must. The role of professionals is exactly that of building and managing the institutions’ or persons’ image, integrating their initiatives into rational strategies, meant to ensure sustainable development.
However, many steps have been undertaken in the past few years in Romania in order to overhaul these gaps in development. This evolution is due to the intervention of large corporations on the internal markets and, on the other hand, to the activity of a number of university teaching workgroups, such as the one functioning within our department. It is a workgroup whose activities result in individual or collective scientific efforts, teaching activities, national and international conferences and others…
…It also results in having high-achieving graduates. In what concerns us, we follow without hesitation the ancient principle that claims that the performance of a magister is measured by the performance of his disciples.
